Musical Theatre Quotes
Time: Beginning of the Year
Theme: Inspirational Musical Theatre Quotes
Purpose: Motivational quotes from popular musicals were chosen to be posted to encourage students in the beginning of the year. Since the start of a new school year may bring tough emotions, new social situations, and new academic, social, and extra curricular adventures, these quotes were chosen to help students remember that they have the power within themself to succeed. Furthermore, the quotes serve to encourage self positivity.
Here's Where You Belong
Time: Beginning of the Year
Theme: Mean Girls
Purpose: This bulletin board gives new students information on important locations and resources on and off the NYU campus, thus helping them begin their process of making NYU and NYC their new home. In the style of the Burn Book from Mean Girls the musical and movie, each important resource and location receives its own Burn Book "page". Each place and resource listed are important for new students to know in order for them to become acquainted with NYU and to begin finding the place(s) in which they belong in this jungle of a city and university. Also, it emphasizes to all students that no matter what, they belong here and this is their home.
Battle of the Musicals
Time: March
Theme: March Madness, Bracket Style Voting
Students get to vote on their favorite musicals, bracket style, every week of March until at the very end one musical comes out on top! Students vote each week by filling out a form by paper and submitting it in a pocket next to the bulletin board OR by filling out a Google Forum emailed to them weekly. At the end of each week, I tally up the votes and update the bracket with the winners and students vote again!
Purpose: Students get to engage with the culture of musical theatre with their peers in a competitive and fun way. This is a simple way to gather passive engagement from all students, since students can vote anonymously. This allows all students to feel involved without necessarily having to put themselves out there in social situations or classroom situations they do not feel ready for.
Write Like You're Running Out of Time
Time: Playwriting Unit
Theme: Hamilton
Purpose: Using inspirational and writing related quotes from the musical Hamilton, this bulletin board serves to provide inspiration and an easy/accessible place to attain playwriting materials. This board was made to give students access to the due dates, project information sheet, other plays, formatting sheets, and all rubrics so that they will always have access to this information while in class.
